Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 23759
Find and Replace eats too much memory (crashing most systems)
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:19:49 UTC
While I was trying to replace 27000 soft hyphens in a 40 page file with nil, both the Linux and the Windows versions of Oo crashed. The linux version in particular slowed down progressively and finally took down the OS with it. In MSWord the same replacement lasted one second and took place without a hitch. Could this be a memory leak?
Created attachment 12048 [details] An MSWord Greek-Turkish file with a lot of soft hyphens
HI-MRU: MS-File; Alone the load takes a lot of time. Please analyse.
Additional comments from submitter via mail: The only thing I can add is that the search and replace starts off as if having a lot of steam and slowly slows down to a crawl and final crash in Linux and to a message about some kind of memory being insufficient in Windows.
Original Issue is now handed over to SBA (Master of F&R). Performance on import will be investigated and when necessary file as new issue.
SBA->FME: I could reproduce this with 680m45 on Win2000. Please have a look.
SBA+FME: Looks like the Undo Stack is getting too big. Not exactly endlessly (=> no memory leak) but nevertheless far mot e memory than most machines can handle. Workaround: Set text attributes to "Standard" and make the replacement in smaller chunks. Not broken, target set to OOo later. Reassigned to Hbrinkm.
to sba, is there any progress since 2004 ? Thanks
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
