Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 3411
chart should not connect data points seperated by a blank
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:20:13 UTC
chart this data x y 1 2 2 5 3 5 4 6 5 9 now chart this data x y 1 2 2 5 3 5 [blank row] 4 6 5 9 In MSExcel, the chart would not connect the 3,5 point with the 4,6 point. This may not seem very important but what if I want to plot the following: Lets say I have two sets of data, but they have a common "z" value. x y 1 2 2 5 3 5 4 6 5 9 [blank row] 1 3 2 4 3 5 4 7 5 10 Chart will connect the 5,9 point with the 1,3 point. MSExel will not (provided I place a balnk row between them). What this means is that I cannot plot the two data sets in the same chart "series", and therefore would have to have seperate "series" defined for each set, and therefore configure each one. Now If I have say 9 data sets for each common "z" value, and I have 3 "z" values, I would have to create 9*3=27 chart "series". In MSExcel I only have to have 3. If anyone cares I can email an exapmle using Excel and Chart. ral

I am sorry that this Issue will not be fixed in OOo 2.0. The chart team is concentrating on a complete redo of the chart module, which will allow us to fix more bugs and introduce important new features in future. But in the meanwhile only very little will happen at the old chart - I am sorry.

Well its only been >4 years since I brought up this issue. I try to keep hope alive. One day I will be free of MS Office, but not today, or before Vista I guess. It seems such a tiny thing, but alas. Mayhap I can get everyone in my office to register and vote for this issue.
The possibility to change the behavior will be fixed as part of issue 65549.
reset to new
With the implementation of issue 65549 in version DEV300m29 (on the way to OpenOffice 3.1) the user now can choose what should happen on blank cells. Just open the data series properties dialog and choose on the Options page. Setting this issue to duplicate to issue 65549 now. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 65549 ***
