Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 50886
Datapilot defaults to the current worksheet, instead of a new worksheet
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
Once the Datapilot is launched the "More" button must be selected to specifiy that a new worksheet required. Could this option either: 1. Not be hidden behind the "More" button 2. Default to a new worksheet rather than the current worksheet And : a. Can Calc remember the last option selected b. Is it possible to provide a setting in Tools | Options to configure this feature or where ever appropriate

Hi kohei, I hope you don´t mind, that I put you on the CC of this issue. For me it is a pain in the neck. And hopefully for you it is just a very little effort, when you happen to touch the code of Datapilot anyway. IMO it would be a big progress if Datapilot would just default to a new worksheet rather than the current worksheet. That´s all. Cheers!
Created attachment 60224 [details] patch to make new sheet the default output
As requested. ;-) The patch is very simple. BTW I too always thought it was weird not to default to a new sheet. For the majority of use cases I encounter, data pilot tables are created on new sheet, while the current sheet contain large data table. So, this change makes sense to me.
Actually the patch causes a problem when modifying an existing data pilot table, as it keeps inserting a new sheet on every edit instead of modifying the table. I have to fix that.
Hi Kohei, any progress? :-) Thanks for your work!
Created attachment 64462 [details] latest patch from go-oo
The implementation is already done & working in go-oo. But I'm afraid this is also one of those things that need approval from ux.
Ok. Then let´s invite the UX team to participate here! (I just dropped a message to [ux-request] mailing list.) By now, Datapilot´s output defaults to the current worksheet underneath the source range. In most cases the user wants the output to be placed on a separate (new) worksheet. The main reason for this is, that the source range of a Datapilot typically is big. It stretches out over a great number of rows. In order to see the result, one would have to scroll all the way down the spreadsheet. Since Datapilot´s output defaults to the current worksheet, in most cases users must click the "More"-button to open the extended options of the dialog and change the combo box from "undefined" to "new sheet".
Reassigning issue to spreadsheet. A patch is available.
I'm adding this comment to all open issues with Issue Type == PATCH. We have 220 such issues, many of them quite old. I apologize for that. We need your help in prioritizing which patches should be integrated into our next release, Apache OpenOffice 4.0. If you have submitted a patch and think it is applicable for AOO 4.0, please respond with a comment to let us know. On the other hand, if the patch is no longer relevant, please let us know that as well. If you have any general questions or want to discuss this further, please send a note to our dev mailing list: dev@openoffice.apache.org Thanks! -Rob
