Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 69649
Yield financial function returns error 502 with 12 payments per year
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
I am trying to calculate the yield to maturity on GE Capital notes found on finance.yahoo.com. These notes make monthly interest payments but the yield function gives an error when setting the frequency to 12. Frequencies of 1,2,4 work. No other frequency works.
Created attachment 39219 [details] GE bonds Yield calculation error
That's according to the help. So there is no defect. But it makes sense to add the frequency of 12, because there are many banks with 12 payments per year. Issue typ should be changed to ENHANCEMANT. Same thing with these functions, found in German help: AUFGELZINS DURATION_ADD KURS MDURATION RENDITE UNREGER.KURS UNREGER.REND UNREGLE.KURS UNREGLE.REND ZINSTERMNZ ZINSTERMTAGE ZINSTERMTAGNZ ZINSTERMTAGVA ZINSTERMVZ ZINSTERMZAHL
I am sorry, I read the help but overlooked the note. You are correct, this should be an enhancement to calculate Corporate bonds with 12 payments per year.
Hi, IMHO we can't enhance this function, as we would break the compatibility with Excel. Nevertheless requirements have to decide about it. Frank
Why this? Are we using OOo or Excel? As I wrote many banks make monthly payments and therefore this must be realized.
You would still be compatible with Excel if your definition of 'compatibility' is doing everything that excel does. This would be an additional feature, an enhancement, something to distinquish OO from Excel with more features that are more applicable to the tasks we have to perform in business and personal endeavors.
