The attached sample document does not retain the styles set in the tools ->
outline numbering dialogue.  The sample document contains a fuller explanation.

The document, originally 30 pages in length, was set to show numbered headings
(1.1.1 etc). A table of contents was added also.  When the document was reloaded
after being saved, the numbering of the headings had disappeared (except for the
1.1 heading).  When the TOC was updated, it show no entries.

On investigation, the tools->outline numbering... dialogue was found to have no
styles attached to the heading levels.  When these were restored, the TOC and
the numbering appeared correct.  However, the problem recurred on the next save.

The sample document is a cut down version of the original which also displays
the problem.  An attempt to create a new document did not display the problem.

I can reproduce the error in OOo2.2, but no longer in OOo2.2.1rc2.

Thanks for your very quick response to my bug report.

I downloaded and installed OOo2.2.1rc2 as you recommended.
Unfortunately, the problem still occurs here and does not 
seem to have changed.

You are right, I forgot to update the TOC. It is also broken in OOo2.2.1rc2 and
OOo-dev 680m212.

You can try to repair the document. Make a new empty document in OOo2.2.1rc2 and
insert the old one via Insert > File...

Insert -> File does not solve the issue but the problem is not serious for my
document (it has just been published). If there is anything further I can do to
flush out the bug, please let me know.

MRU->OD: see attached document - there are no Heading styles applied in
tools.outline. When doing this, the settings will revert to "none" ever time the
document is saved & reopened.

defect cause in ODF import:
Paragraph styles not assigned to the corresponding outline level of the outline
style, because its parent style has list style attribute set, but this list
style attribute is empty.
